Andrew Eade has made a - ‘Request for an Extraordinary Meeting of Telford & Wrekin Council’
In view of public disquiet concerning
a) The reckless and unprecedented wasted expenditure up to £1.5m on an aborted attempt to secure planning permission for a supermarket development on a T&W Council owned site at Newport and the subsequent attempt by the authority to block all rival schemes.
b) The premature inclusion of a capital receipt of £21m in the Authorities budget which will now have to be addressed by the sale of Council owned Assets to plug the resulting gap.
c) The indication that the Cabinet is considering continuing legal action with the resulting additional costs to the council that such an action would incur, as reported in the Shropshire Star of Monday 7th of April
d) A lack of an apology or even acceptance of responsibility by the Council’s Leader over this debacle.
The undersigned Councillors request you to arrange an urgent and extraordinary public meeting of the council with a single item of business as follows: -
This Council calls on the Cabinet to cease any further High Court Action associated with its plans for a supermarket development in Newport and demands a public apology from the leader of the council, or his Deputy, and acceptance that the current Administration was ultimately responsible for the waste of up to £1.5m of public funds.
