A very pleasant evening was had in the company of Chris Grayling the Justice Minister and MP Mark Pritchard with an excellent meal at Wrekin Golf Club.
Chris gave an informative speech.
He said it was most important that Ed Miliband was not elected in May.
We have achieved great things in government but people do not understand that we have been in coalition.
Under Labour we suffered a terrible recession which was handled very badly by them.
George Osborn has done a great job, despite rising health and pension costs we are now doing better than four years ago.
Not only is the economy better there has been the reform of the welfare system, the number of workless households has been reduced, housing and other benefits have been capped, and unemployment is down massively.
There has been reform of education, justice and social reform – tough but compassionate. Victims are dealt with fairly. Privileges in jail have been removed, legislation is being introduced that ensures that prisoners are not automatically released.
50% of prisoners have been in care and will now get 12 months support after leaving jail.
After the election we plan to get rid of the Human Rights Act and replace it with our own version – proper balance of human rights and laws.
We have an issue with UKIP over Europe, they have replaced the Liberal Democrats as the party of protest and we must deal with this, but we must not be diverted from our course, and we must not be bounced into an immediate referendum. If that happened and the vote was to stay in Europe we would have lost our chance to change it.
May will be a seminal election. Ed Miliband is the most left wing labour leader since Michael Foot.
During questions he agreed that we must have English votes for English laws and that William Hague is working on this.
