Mark Pritchard, has said that he will not be supporting the Assisted Dying Bill being debated in the House of Lords on Friday 18th July.
The Bill, tabled by Labour peer Lord Falconer, seeks to legalise assisted dying by enabling doctors to prescribe lethal doses of drugs to terminally ill patients with a “settled intention” to end their lives.
Mr Pritchard said: “I believe in the sanctity of life – from the womb to the deathbed. However, these are often sensitive and complex cases. Nonetheless, I do not support the Assisted Dying Bill. Any change to the current law could be a slippery slope, which incrementally, and over time, could put individuals under pressure to end their lives prematurely for monetary reasons”.
The MP is Vice-Chairman of the Parliamentary Pro-Life group.
