Telford & Wrekin Council plan to form a company, to be run by council officers, to build 425 new homes for rent at the Town Centre.
Councillor Andrew Eade criticised this saying, The £52million that would need to be borrowed will bring the borrowing of the council up to £300 million which will treble the council debt and be a huge risk for the public.
He also said that it was predetermined because it was announced last year by Labour councillors before a feasibility study, costing £1.1 million, had been done. Expecting the company to be run by council officers would add grately to their workload.
These properties will be high class for market rent and would not be available for 'Right to Buy'.
