Cashed strapped Telford and Wrekin Council is spending up to £10,000 preparing Newport’s Station Road site in readiness for its reputed £21 million sale to supermarket giant Sainsbury’s, even before the Council has granted itself planning permission.
Church Aston & Lilleshall Councillor Andrew Eade has also poured scorn on the authority’s ability to impartially grant itself permission after already including the alleged £21 million proceeds in the council’s budget and now splashing out £10,000 preparing the site.
Cllr. Eade said “It is clear to any onlooker that this new Labour Administration is as guilty as sin of assuming their own application for the Sainsburys Hyper Store will be approved, why else would they include the sale proceeds in their budget and now spend up to £10,000 getting the site ready for work to go ahead.”
“The councillors in charge seem quite ready to ride roughshod over local people and simply dismiss their views and fears for Newport’s future without a second thought. They are selling off our future to fund their spending plans elsewhere.”
“The arrogance of this council is stunning, they should be working hand in glove with their local community and not treating them with such breath taking contempt” he added.
