Following tonight's Cabinet meeting at Telford and Wrekin Council, Councillor Nigel Dugmore has issued the following statement concerning the flawed proposals on school catchment area changes:
"The parents of Muxton children are obviously disappointed that the
Telford and Wrekin Labour administration supports an administrative
nicety over the wishes of the parents whose children are being treated
like an administrative football.
Muxton children were used to fill the academicaly successful Burton
Borough school when it suited, and now they are being directed to fill
the Telford Priory School.
The result of this decision means that Telford and Wrekin will be
giving priority to out area children which is contrary to their
statutory duty as laid out in the Education Act 1996. Staffordshire
children living nearer to Newport than Muxton will take precedence.
The results of the public consultation has been disregarded, despite
the overwhelming rejection by Muxton parents. Quite frankly the whole
process has been a shambles and if necessary I will refer the whole
excercise to the local government ombudsman for investigation."
The Conservatives would review school places and catchment when in power in Telford and Wrekin, it's vital you join us in our campaign
