Conservative Leader Andrew Eade said “In January last year we committed the Council and asked the Boundary Commission to completely overhaul the electoral system in the Borough during their review later this year, and have put a motion before Full Council to urge the labour group to continue with this policy.”
“We strongly believe that the Borough has too many elected councillors and the whole system needs to be streamlined to make the authority more efficient and responsive to local needs and aspirations”.
“Larger wards with single Councillor representation will provide clearer and better representation for electors and also increase local accountability. It will also strengthen the role of Councillors in the community.”
Likewise it would be a more efficient system and reduce administration costs of up to £250,000 every year; a contribution that would be better spent supporting front line services”.
