On Wednesday night T&W Plans Board approved the building of 600 new houses on the area previously earmarked for a supermarket. Conservative, Nigel Dugmore, asked for a site visit, but this was voted against by Labour and Peter Scott on the grounds that they were afraid of being mobbed by the locals. Apparently last time they had a site visit in Newport - over the planned supermarket, the councillors felt so imtimidated by the locals that they were too afraid to get out of their bus!!!! All the conservatives on Plans Board voted against this proposal, and complained of not being able to visit the sites to make their own judgement.
