Telford Wrekin Conservative leader has welcomed the intervention of the Council’s Labour Speaker Cllr. Charles Smith, who has suggested a single motion at the Council’s forthcoming Emergency meeting over the possible overnight closure of the Princess Royal’s accident and Emergency unit.
The suggestion follows confusion after the Council’s Labour Leader submitted a second different motion after the emergency meeting had been arranged by Andrew Eade.
Cllr. Eade said “The suggestion by Charlie to have one joint motion makes complete sense and, as I understand the suggestion also enjoys the support of our Liberal colleagues, it gives us all the opportunity to present a united front to support our local Hospital.”
“At this time of a regrettably strained relationship between the Council and Health service bosses, it is vital that all councillors should speak with one voice and are seen to be as one on this vital issue.”

Subject: Requests for EGM
Dear Group Leaders,
As you are aware, last Thursday, we received 2 requests for an EGM, both in relation to the proposed possible closure of A&E services at the PRH.
I have talked to the Speaker and he asked me to contact you: His view is that, for the sake of providing a united front to the public on this important issue, it would be sensible if we could get together to agree how we can best manage this situation.
Accordingly I have asked xxx to contact you all as soon as possible to organise this.
The Speaker’s wants to explore the possibility of agreeing a motion that all groups can support – to that end please would you consider wording that might be acceptable so that we have something to talk through when we meet.
Many thanks
