The Conservative Group Leader on Telford and Wrekin Council has demanded an end to Council Tax payers in Telford & Wrekin having to stump up £130,000 of their own money every year to fund the activities of two full time and five part time Trade Union Officials at the local authority when vital frontline services at the council are under severe financial pressure.
Conservative Group Leader Andrew Eade said “Maintaining vital front line services for our community should be our clear priority and it is deeply wrong that council tax payers in Telford & Wrekin should have to dig deep into their pockets to fund union representation for council employees, many of which don’t even live in the borough.”
Although unions play an important role at the authority this huge cost of £130,000 every year is robbing the council of funds to provide critical services and support to all people across the borough and I demand that Cllr Sahota make a clear statement that this wholesale waste of public funds is halted straight away.”
“If this level of representation is needed then council employees or the Unions nationally should fund the posts not our hard pressed community in the Wrekin that rightly expect much better use of resources.””
