Justine Greening gave a very interesting talk last night at the Wrekin Conservative function.
She 'busted' several myths about the Overseas Development Fund ; No more projects are being started in India, the ones already in place will continue until completion and that will be that.
Aid going to under developed countries is aimed at improving the prosperity of those countries - we are not doing so much welfare - we are helping get their ecomony going, networking with British companies, to the advantage of both. Some previously impoverished African countries are now doing very well and networking with British companies, this helps our economy as much as theirs.
We are helping them to improve their tax systems.
Financial audits - We are monitoring what we are doing so if a programme is not progessing as it should it is terminated, so our money is not wasted. Labour did not do this.
We will still help with Health and Education but more and more we are helping with the economy of the countries we are involved with.
She also works very closely with Theresa May and Phillip Hammond - if there are conflict zones it is better to go in and help, rather than reach a point where we have to send in troops, we can also monitor terrorist groups.
