Conservative Group Leader Andrew Eade “said in 1980 the labour group authorised an annual rent payment of £500,000 a year for an unprecedented period of 99 years during which time the council will also literally have to spend millions of pounds in maintenance and repair bills just to keep the building operational.”
“What makes this appalling agreement even worse is that the council will never own the building and the whopping cost puts and extra 1% on everyone’s council tax bill this year and every year as we all have to pay for this extraordinary blunder.”
“Cancelling our own new Civic Offices with a price tag of only £16.5 Million and at no extra cost to Wrekin Council tax payers is just rubbing salt into the wounds when compared to the £55 million cost of Derby House and brings into question the collective competence and ability of the council’s Labour administration.”
