Mark Pritchard, is co-sponsoring an amendment to the Government’s Immigration Bill which will make it easier to deport foreign criminals. Currently, 11% of the prison population in England & Wales is made up of foreign nationals.
The amendment would mean that UK courts would have to order the deportation of a foreign criminal jailed for a year or more, unless the prisoner concerned faced torture or death on removal.
Mr Pritchard said:
“This amendment will seek to reverse the unacceptably high number of successful challenges to deportation by foreign criminals in the UK. I am pleased to be a co-sponsor of this amendment and I hope that it is supported by the government”
The Immigration Bill is due to be debated in the House of Commons before Christmas.
