Mark Pritchard, has met with senior police officers from the National Crime Agency and the Metropolitan Police’s Counter-Terrorism Command to discuss the government’s Investigatory Powers Bill, which will be debated in Parliament.
Mark who served for four years on the National Security Strategy Committee, discussed a wide range of issues contained within the Bill, including intrusive surveillance and police access to computer records and data.
Mark said:
“Striking the right balance between security and civil liberties is a challenging judgement to make. These are dangerous times and the police need an updated and consolidated law to catch up with more technologically aware criminals and terrorists. That said, the police need to do more to show they can be trusted with personal data”.
