Mark Pritchard, is set to introduce a Private Member’s Bill, which will seek to amend the term limit on abortions.
The MP also moved an amendment to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill in the last Parliament which sought to reduce the abortion term limit to sixteen weeks. Under current legislation the legal abortion limit is twenty four weeks.
Mr Pritchard, who is Vice Chairman of the Parliamentary Pro-Life Group, said:
“The existing laws lag behind recent scientific breakthroughs. Far too many terminations are happening at 21 weeks despite young babies now surviving outside the womb at 21 weeks. Effectively, viable young babies are being terminated despite them being very much alive. My Bill would bring the law up to date alongside scientific breakthroughs and reduce the term limit from 24 weeks to 21 weeks”.
The MP will introduce the Bill into the Commons in March.
