A freedom of Information Enquiry has revealed that Telford & Wrekin Council’s T Live concert in the Town Park made a larger loss than previously revealed. The Council stated that the loss was £40,000, but new information has revealed that the Council subsidised the event by contributing a further £5,400 and the authority was saved from financial disaster by a Government Grant of £115,400 which could otherwise have been used to promote music at schools or local artists and bands.
Conservative Leader Andrew Eade has called on the council to engage with experienced promoters in future after the Council’s Labour Leader, Cllr. Sahota, confirmed that the Council intended to repeat the event and considered the financial loss good value for money.
Cllr Eade said “The event in the Town Park brought a great deal of pleasure to a lot of people in the Borough but such events need to be self financing as we cannot waste a single penny at a time when the Council is cutting £10.5m from Adult Social Care.”
“I am surprised and worried by Cllr. Sahota’s priorities and values, as he has yet to make any statement with regard to his administrations swingeing cuts to Social Care while considering a huge loss on the concert to be good value for money.
