Councillor Eric Carter Says that Telford & Wrekin Borough Council must act quickly to take advantage of new money being given by the Government to improve rural broadband speeds.
The Government is offering T&W £1.42 million to roll out superfast broadband across its rural areas. However, it has to be matchfunded and Telford & Wrekin council are dragging their feet saying that they can't afford it. The council could get the money from the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership - there is money available from the Growing Places Fund and the European Structural and Investment Fund.
Eric Carter said, "They are always bragging that Woodside has the best coverage of broadband in the country, which is great unless you live in Ironbridge. Ironbridge is always talked of as being the jewel of the borough, but people there are lucky if they can get a phone signal, let alone a broadband signal."
