I think last week fairly counted as a busy week. It opened with a return to the Shrewsbury and Newport canal trust regular Himalayan Balsam removal.

Following a meeting held by the Conservative Group on Telford & Wrekin Council, Cllr Tim Nelson was elected unanimously as the new Group Leader – making him the leader of the opposition on Telford & Wrekin Council.

Newport's very own Cllr Tim Nelson competed in yesterday's Shrewsbury Regatta in a team made up entirely of over-60s. Shrewsbury Regatta is one of the oldest such events in the country, having been started in 1871.

Cllr Tim Nelson's ward fund has been put to use in Broomfield play area.

Cllrs Tim Nelson and Peter Scott are enormously proud to announce the birth of a baby olive, on one of their High street trees. The Borough and Town Council colleagues planted both Photinia and Olive trees last autumn along Newport high street which was well received.

Normal service is resumed up on Newport canal! During the winter the canal volunteers have done sterling work to strip back the line of Meretown lock. Earlier this week Cllr Tim Nelson and volunteers were clearing away old rubble and stonework in the rain.
